i lost control and the front end of the car dug into a dirt bank at about fifty, flipped it end-for-end, not rolling sideways. slid for a while. when it stopped upside down, after i regained consciousness, i fell out of my seat and crawled around in blood and broken glass for a few minutes before giving up. i was stuck in the car, i hurt, it was dark everywhere.
after an eternity there was a paramedic reaching in the crumpled window to take my hand. she asked questions to see how alive i was. i didn’t want to let go of her hand.
they pulled me out through the back window, braced my neck, strapped me to a stretcher. a few hours at the hospital. no critical injuries.
i went back the next day. the twisted metal coffin was gone, just a pile of dirt at the impact site and flattened grasses where it slid through the field. and these piles of broken glass and drops of blood; i took photos so that i would never forget.
